Fall 2015 Cross Racing with Bespoke Cycles

This fall we have diverted from our usual Saturday shop rides to focus more attention on an emerging and exciting scene within American cycling.  Cross racing has made its way to the states via Belgium and is officially here to stay.  Events are popular among racers and spectators alike due to the festive atmosphere and proximity to the action.  If you haven’t been to a race we highly encourage you to come out and be a part of this terrific new Fall tradition.

We will be present at 5 different races this year complete with a bike stand for basic maintenance, a pour over coffee bar sponsored by Intelligentsia Coffee, and good times compliments of the Ornot cross team.  In addition to this you might even find homemade waffles or beer supplied by our friends from Biergarten.  Come out, race, cheer and enjoy the season!

Saturday May 2 Shop Lead Ride to the East Bay

IMG_2579The adventure series offered by Bespoke Cycles allows SF riders a chance to branch out of a typical weekend ride and experience new terrain and challenging routes.  For the month of May we will tackle some spectacular roads in the East Bay beginning with the Berkeley Hills, the Briones Reservoir, and Mt Diablo to put icing on the cake.

Meetup for this ride will be at the Embarcadero Bart Station (corner of Market and Spear) at 805 AM for an 820AM departure.  We will then train out to the Rockridge Station to begin the ride.  For our East bay riders wishing to meet up we will begin the ride at 845 from the parking lot in Rockridge.

Expect this ride to be quite challenging being that it is 7500 ft of climbing in just over 70 miles.  We will ride at a pace everyone can handle but please be realistic with your fitness level before deciding to join us.  This is in the best interest of the group as well as yourself.  I also would like to emphasize that this is a group ride and we will ride this like a team.  No one finishes until everyone finishes.  If you are interested in PR’s then this might not be the best choice.

Upon finishing the ride in Walnut creek we will cool down with a craft  beer and snacks at the Beer Cafe and Bottle Shop before jumping aboard Bart for our return to the city.  Our estimated arrival back in the city will be 4pm.

Please RSVP on our Strava Group Page so we can get an accurate count.  If you have questions email Justin@bespokecyclessf.com.

Bike Rentals San FranciscoSaturday February 7 Shop Lead Destination Ride to Mt Hamilton

We are very excited to offer our first adventure ride of 2015 this coming Saturday February 7.  The planned route will take us from the Dublin Bart Station to the top of Mt Hamilton and finishing in San Jose at the Cal Train station.  This ride is unsupported but with planned stops along the way.  This being roads that most are unfamiliar with we will ride this as a team regrouping at the crux of all climbs.  An important reason as to why we choose to lead these types of rides is to build a collective environment within the cycling community of the Bay Area.

We will have three different meet up spots and times for this ride to accommodate East Bay and City riders.  For San Francisco riders we will have an earlier meet up time than the normal Saturday ride to compensate for the train.  The first choice is to meet up at Bespoke Cycles at 715am.  We will then ride down to the Embarcadero BART stop at Market and Spear for the 2nd of meet up locations with other city riders at 745am.  From here we will board the 8:07am Dublin / Pleasanton Bart train.  The next meet up spot will be outside the Dublin / Pleasanton BART station at 9am.

Meet up times

+ Bespoke Cycles – 715am

+ Embarcadero BART station (meet above ground at Market and Spear) – 745am (807 AM Dublin/Pleasanton Train Departure)

+Dublin / Pleasanton Bart Station  (not West Dublin Pleasanton) – 9am

+Depart Dublin Bart Station – 915am

It will be important for you to come prepared with spare tubes, pump, food, water etc, but we will also have planned stops for food and water along the way.  The first stop and lunch break will be on Mines rd at the infamous Junction Cafe.  This roadside cafe offers sandwiches and burgers along with water to keep us going for the climb up Mt Hamilton.  The next stop will be the Lick Observatory atop Mt Hamilton for water.  From here we will descend into San Jose for a Cal Train ride home.

Total distance for this trip is 132k (82mi) with 2,037m (6683ft) and will provide many challenges.  That being said with adequate fitness, this is a ride a great majority of cyclists can endure.  We will do our best to accommodate varying skill levels so as to get as many folks on the ride as possible.

Estimated arrival back in SF is 530pm.

Fees associated with this ride will be Bart Fare, Cal Train Fare, and any food or snacks.

Bart fare – SF to Dublin $5.95

Cal Train Fare – San Jose to San Francisco $9.25

+if possible make sure you have this amount on your clipper card so we can be speedy getting on the trains.

If you have any questions or concerns about the ride please message me at Bespoke via email justin@bespokecyclessf.com or phone 415.642.5652.  Looking forward to sharing a terrific day on the bike with you all.  To sign up for the ride please visit our Strava Group Page here.
